Measured on site. Drawn by hand. Built with makers we know.

We are a small studio and we keep it that way on purpose. The people who measure your rooms are the people who draw them, choose the materials and stand on site when the joiner arrives.

Most of our work is homes and small hospitality projects in the Nordics, with the odd workplace and a few houses in Italy and Spain. We like old buildings, honest materials and furniture that can be repaired rather than replaced.

140

Interiors completed since 2010, from one-room flats in Kallio to entire small hotels.

16

Years in the same Helsinki studio, where every project still starts as a hand sketch.

62,000

Square metres of interiors designed, every one of them measured on site by us first.

4

Projects we take on at a time, so the people you meet are the people who draw your rooms.

From a single room to a whole building, we take on interiors at every scale and see them through to the last cushion.

Every room in a home or holiday house, from the floor plan to the last cushion, designed and delivered by one team.

Four steps and one team, from the first visit to the day we hand over the keys.

Most homes take four to six months from the first visit to moving back in. Hotels and workplaces take longer, and we plan them in phases.

  1. 01.Week 1

    Visit and brief

We meet in your space with a tape measure and a notebook, look at the light and agree on the brief, the fee and a budget in euros.

  2. 02.Weeks 2 to 5

    Concept

Plans, sketches and a box of real samples: wood, stone, textiles and paint you can hold in daylight before anything is decided.

  3. 03.Weeks 6 to 10

    Drawings and sourcing

We draw everything the builders need and order furniture, lighting and materials from makers we know, with the budget sheet open to you.

  4. 04.Until the last shelf

    Site and handover

We are on site every week with the builders and joiners, then style the rooms and come back after a year to see how they live.

What clients say once they have lived in the rooms for a while.

“They kept the old floor tiles and the long counter, then changed everything around them. Our regulars say the place finally looks the way it always should have.”

“We had six weeks and a tight budget. Sandstone&co drew the whole café, found the chairs second hand and still finished a week early.”

Saga Nyholm

Café owner, Turku

“The shop is small, but the shelving, the lighting and the counter now do exactly what we need. Customers stay longer and pick everything up.”

Shop owner, Milan

“Our office went from rows of desks to rooms people actually want to work in: quiet corners, good light and acoustic panels nobody notices.”

Designing rooms for low northern light

In Helsinki the winter sun barely clears the rooftops. Here is how we plan rooms that still feel bright from November to February.

Lime plaster, and why we keep coming back to it

It cracks, it marks and it changes colour with the weather. It is also the finish our clients ask us about most.

How we choose a dining chair

You will sit on it every day for twenty years. Here is the short list of checks every chair has to pass before it reaches a client.
